Japan Women's University Launches New Scholarship for Regional Students Starting in 2025

Japan Women's University Announces New Scholarship

Japan Women's University (JWU), located in Bunkyo, Tokyo, has recently announced the launch of a new scholarship program aimed at supporting students from regional areas. Set to begin in the 2025 academic year, the "Pre-enrollment Reservation Grant Scholarship" is designed to alleviate the financial burdens faced by local students, encouraging them to pursue higher education without the fear of financial difficulties.

The scholarship promises financial support of 500,000 yen annually for up to four years, totaling 2 million yen for successful candidates. This initiative is particularly aimed at academically motivated students who hail from areas outside Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, and Chiba, thereby expanding access to higher education and fostering gender equality in Japan.

Eligibility Criteria and Application Process

The scholarship is intended for students planning to take the general entrance exams for JWU, including individual selection, international English assessment, and the National Center Test for University Admissions. Candidates will be selected through a document screening process, and successful applicants will need to confirm their candidacy before applying for admission.

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must meet certain criteria:
1. Strong desire to enroll at JWU.
2. Intention to sit for the general entrance exams.
3. Hold Japanese citizenship or have specific residency status.
4. Be a graduate of a high school outside of Tokyo and neighboring prefectures.
5. Meet household income limits, such as an annual income below 8 million yen for salaried workers or less than 3.5 million yen for non-salaried income.

A total of 30 students will be awarded the scholarship each year, contingent upon passing the entrance exams and enrolling at JWU. The selection period will take place around October to December 2025, with specific details to be finalized and announced in advance.

Enhancing Educational Opportunities

As part of its ongoing reform initiatives, celebrating its 120th anniversary in 2021, JWU is committed to enhancing learning opportunities for students from various regions. The university believes that fostering an environment where students can learn and share experiences will contribute to their personal growth and empower them as future leaders in Japan and beyond.

In anticipation of the scholarship announcement, JWU has also scheduled open campus dates in 2025 for prospective students to explore the university and its offerings. Information sessions and tours of lodgings for students coming from rural areas will provide guidance and support to boost admissions.

Future Academic Programs

JWU continues to evolve and adapt to meet the educational needs of its students. Notably, the university has introduced new departments, such as the Faculty of Architecture and Design and the Department of Food Science, further broadening its academic scope. Current plans also include renaming two programs within the Faculty of Literature and launching a new Faculty of Economics in 2027.
