Cariflex Unveils World's Largest Polyisoprene Latex Plant in Singapore
Cariflex Launches Major Polyisoprene Latex Factory in Singapore
Cariflex Pte. Ltd., a global leader in polyisoprene rubber latex intended for medical products, has officially opened the world's largest polyisoprene latex manufacturing facility on Jurong Island, Singapore. This significant milestone comes after an investment exceeding 355 million USD, aimed at enhancing Cariflex's production capacity to meet the soaring demand for high-quality synthetic latex in medical and protective applications.
The grand opening was attended by notable figures including Tan See Leng, Singapore’s Minister of Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry, as well as representatives from South Korea and the local business community.
The new facility spans 6.1 hectares and is strategically situated to cater to the needs of Southeast Asia, an essential hub for producing surgical gloves and condoms. The choice of Singapore as a location is attributed to its thriving financial, innovation, and logistics sectors, coupled with a skilled workforce and robust intellectual property protection.
Ryu Sang Woo, the CEO of Cariflex, stated, "We have strategically established our new production unit here in Singapore, close to our key customers. This facility not only enables us to significantly increase our production but also provides our clients with a diverse and reliable supply of quality materials, solidifying our leadership position in the global polyisoprene latex market."
The construction of the plant began in 2022, reaching operational status in November 2024, with plans for modular expansions already underway to accommodate anticipated growth. This facility is expected to double Cariflex's latex production volume, thus aligning production capacity with rising market demands.
In addition to enhancing manufacturing capabilities, the launch of this facility highlights Singapore's ongoing efforts to foster industries focused on high value and innovation. Approximately 80 permanent positions have been created, primarily for locals, reinforcing the commitment to local employment and skill development.
Cariflex has continuously invested in talent development across its global operations, focusing on training programs that encompass operations, safety, quality, and digital systems, ensuring that employees have pathways for career advancement.
With its global headquarters relocated to Singapore in 2020, Cariflex is well-positioned to integrate its commercial activities with production, supporting its unique position in the market. It is the only company manufacturing synthetic rubber and latex by means of anionic catalysts, known for their exceptional purity, clarity, and flexibility.
Overall, the establishment of this facility marks a pivotal moment for Cariflex and the broader latex industry, setting the stage for future growth and innovation in the medical supplies sector.
