The International School of San Francisco has officially appointed Eric Thuau as its new Head of School, effective July 1, 2026, marking a significant leadership change for the institution. This decision follows a thorough search, reflecting the school’s commitment to finding a candidate who aligns with its mission and values.

Eric Thuau, a seasoned educator with over 25 years of leadership in various independent and international educational settings, is regarded as a champion for student-centered, bilingual education. His extensive career has seen him at the helm of international schools across the globe, bringing valuable insights and management skills to his role. Currently serving as the Head of the French American School of Puget Sound, Thuau has demonstrated an impressive ability to drive enrollment growth and enhance fundraising initiatives while adeptly navigating the complexities of the educational landscape.

Before his tenure at the French American School, he was the Head of School at the Austin International School, where his leadership resulted in a thriving academic environment marked by strong philanthropic culture and robust educational partnerships. Thuau's international experience also includes significant roles in Turkey and Cape Verde, where he was instrumental in developing innovative trilingual educational programs that received necessary accreditations and commendations.

Thuau holds a Bachelor of Education from the University Institute of Education in Montigny-les-Metz, France, and has pursued further leadership training, including a recent certification program at the University of Laval in Canada. His contributions to education were recognized when he was honored as a Knight in the Order of the French Academic Palms by the French Ministry for National Education.

Brian Keil, Chair of the Board of Trustees, expressed his enthusiasm about Thuau’s appointment, stating, "This is an exciting time for our school. Eric is a strategic, mission-driven leader ready to guide The International School of San Francisco into its next chapter."

In response, Thuau remarked, "It is a tremendous honor to be named the next Head of School at The International School of San Francisco. I feel a profound sense of excitement and purpose as I look ahead. I am confident that International is a place where I will continue to grow, thrive, and contribute with heart and intention."

Current Head of School, Melinda Bihn, Ed.D., will conclude her tenure in June 2026. Keil stated, "We are deeply grateful for Melinda's extraordinary and impactful leadership. Her final year will be one of continued momentum—advancing key initiatives already underway and ensuring a smooth, successful transition for Eric and the entire community."

The International School of San Francisco, established in 1962, is the largest secular independent school in the region, located in the vibrant Hayes Valley neighborhood. It serves a diverse array of learners from PK2 to Grade 12, fostering a multicultural, bilingual educational environment where students can learn to navigate the complexities of the world confidently and empathetically.
