Overview of the JPI Seminar
On July 10, 2025, the Japan Planning Institute (JPI) will host a significant seminar focusing on the latest trends and future perspectives regarding carbon neutrality in fuel and heat demand. This event is set to feature
Mr. Yasuo Hosono, a Technical Advisor from Chiyoda Corporation’s Frontier Business Division, who will deliver an in-depth discussion on the topic.
Importance of Carbon Neutrality in Heat Demand
Carbon neutrality is not just about transitioning to clean electric power; it also requires addressing heat demand—over 70% of CO2 emissions stem from fossil fuel-based thermal energy. The current heat supply is heavily reliant on fossil fuels, necessitating a comprehensive approach that includes electrification, decarbonization of fuels, and optimizing the processes and technologies involved.
Objectives of the Seminar
In this session, Mr. Hosono will highlight practical and effective strategies for achieving decarbonization in heat demand, exploring key areas such as:
1.
Decarbonization Trends
- Decarbonization scenarios
- Challenges in Hard-to-Abate sectors
- Global policies and regulations
2.
Decarbonization of Industrial Heat Demand
- Oil and chemicals
- Steel and cement
- Other industries
3.
Key Technologies and Their Applications
- Electrification and heat pumps
- Hydrogen, ammonia, and synthetic fuels
- Industrial furnaces
- Utilizing waste heat and thermal storage
4.
Evaluation of Heat Demand Decarbonization
5.
Future Prospects
6.
