Canon Group Achieves Top 'Platinum' Rating for Sustainability Excellence in EcoVadis Assessment

Canon Group Achieves Prestigious 'Platinum' Rating from EcoVadis

In a noteworthy achievement, Canon Group has secured the highest accolade of 'Platinum' in a sustainability assessment conducted by EcoVadis, a leading international evaluation body based in France. This recognition is particularly significant as it places Canon among the top 1% of evaluated companies, highlighting its commitment to sustainable practices.

The EcoVadis assessment evaluates companies on four critical areas: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. With over 150,000 companies from various sectors in 185 countries being assessed globally, the EcoVadis ranking has become a critical reference for many leading global firms when selecting business partners. Canon's outstanding performance in all four categories underscores its relentless pursuit of sustainability.

Historically, Canon has received seven consecutive 'Gold' ratings since 2015 for its sustainability initiatives. However, this latest recognition marks a significant milestone as it reflects the company's steadfast commitment to enhancing its sustainability efforts over the years, ultimately leading to the first-ever 'Platinum' rating.

Canon's Commitment to Sustainability

Canon's initiatives towards achieving a sustainable society focus on addressing pressing environmental and social challenges. The company has prioritized four crucial environmental issues: climate change, resource circulation, chemical substances, and biodiversity. Canon has been proactive in integrating these concerns into its business operations, ensuring that sustainability considerations are evident at every stage of the product lifecycle.

Since establishing a goal to improve its lifecycle CO2 emissions by an average of 3% annually in 2008, Canon has achieved an impressive average annual improvement of 3.76% from 2008 to 2024, totaling a remarkable 44.6% reduction since the baseline.

Moreover, Canon is dedicated to respecting human rights across all stakeholders involved in its business, including employees and suppliers. Under the Canon Group Human Rights Policy, the organization has implemented human rights due diligence across its operations, alongside educational activities for employees in domestic and international group companies. This commitment is complemented by Canon's membership in the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA), where it adheres to the RBA Code of Conduct designed to ensure safe labor environments and responsible environmental practices throughout the manufacturing supply chain.

In light of these accomplishments, Canon Group aims to continue contributing to the realization of a sustainable society through its business activities. The recent 'Platinum' rating by EcoVadis not only acknowledges Canon's efforts thus far but also sets a benchmark for future endeavors in sustainability. Canon remains resolute in its mission to create value through responsible business practices while navigating complex global challenges.
