APLA Health Unveils its Expanded Long Beach Health Center

On May 2, 2025, APLA Health celebrated a significant milestone with the grand reopening of its Long Beach Health Center. This event marks not just a reopening but a robust expansion of facilities designed to better serve the LGBTQ+ community and other underserved populations in Southern California.

Mayor Rex Richardson of Long Beach and various community leaders were present to witness the launch of this comprehensive healthcare facility that aims to be a beacon of hope and health for all. The center has tripled in size since its original opening in 2016, now standing as the largest of APLA Health's eight care centers in Los Angeles County. It features 18 modern examination rooms, a newly expanded laboratory, dedicated blood drawing stations, and a dental clinic. Notably, the center also offers specialized services, including gender health services and PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) for HIV prevention, reinforcing its commitment to providing inclusive healthcare services.

During the reopening ceremony, Mayor Richardson spoke passionately about the importance of having safe healthcare spaces for the local LGBTQ+ populace. Beyond routine care, patients can access LGBTQ+ primary care, dental services, mental health support, and HIV specialty care. The center also offers Out Here Sexual Health services, including PrEP, STD screening, and treatment options for patients living with HIV. The organization stands committed to a holistic approach, providing wraparound support services, including housing assistance and nutritional support via the Vance North Necessities of Life Program, which serves as the largest food pantry in the U.S. for individuals with HIV, distributing over one million meals annually.

In addition to healthcare, APLA Health hosts annual fundraisers like AIDS Walk LA and the Best in Drag Show, demonstrating its dedication to raising awareness and resources for the community it serves.
